MARINO MARINI: FIGURES OF THE 20TH CENTURY — PIERO DELLA FRANCESCA STUDY CENTER: RESEARCH ON ANCIENT AND MODERN SCULPTURE — MILAN, MONTENAPOLEONE — JANUARY 18 – MARCH 72. The exhibition focused on one of the most important strands of Marino Marini’s work: portraits and busts of the great figures of the 20th century. In addition to his iconic themes (such as the Horses and Horsemen or the Pomona figures), Marini was renowned for casting in bronze and plaster the faces of the greatest figures in 20th-century culture, politics, and art (including Igor Stravinsky, Henry Moore, Alberto Magnelli, Mies van der Rohe, and Marc Chagall), deconstructing their forms to reveal the subject’s profound psychology. Signed by the artist in orange marker: “MARINO.”
