TWO POSTERS: 1) MARIAPIA VECCHI, CAVOUR ART GALLERY, PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION, OCTOBER 20–24, 1970. Dimensions: 50 x 70 cm. Mariapia Vecchi (later known as Mariapia Fanfani, 1922–2019) was an Italian photographer, writer, and journalist who was active in international reporting and photography exhibitions spanning the 1960s and 1970s. Before her marriage to political leader Amintore Fanfani (in 1975), she signed all her artistic works and photography books solely as Mariapia Vecchi. The event at the Galleria d’Arte Cavour (a historic Milanese venue managed at the time by gallerist Renzo Cortina) showcased Mariapia Vecchi’s renowned work titled “Poland: The 2nd Millennium,” published in 1970 by Silvana Editoriale d’Arte. The “thousand-year photo essay” refers to the immense span of time encompassing Poland’s history, culture, and traditions (as the country was then celebrating the millennium of its founding as a state). Printed on both sides. 2) RENATO MISSAGLIA PARIS MOSCOW BEIJING THE JOURNEY FORMS SPACE PERSPECTIVES NOVEMBER 1993. Dimensions: 50 x 70 cm. In 1992, Renato Missaglia personally participated in the pioneering and extreme Paris-Moscow-Beijing car rally as a painter, photographer, and journalist. He traveled over 11,000 kilometers through 16 countries, gathering visual impressions, notes, and photographs (source: https://www.renatomissaglia.it/). That adventure gave rise to a series of traveling paintings and photographs, which had their world premiere in February 1993 at the Pyramide du Louvre in Paris. That same year, the monograph of the same name was published by Prospettive d’Arte (Milan/Brescia), with a foreword by the renowned writer and critic Milena Milani. The event held in Milan in November 1993 at Spazio Prospettive d’Arte—a major gallery and publishing house of the time with locations in Milan and Brescia—was Renato Missaglia’s official solo exhibition, titled “Paris-Moscow-Beijing: The Journey, the Forms.” The choice of a grid layout for this original exhibition poster was intended to evoke the look of a photographic film or a sequence of slides, blending the artist’s painterly technique with journalistic reportage.
