Important marble fountain. Italian school. 19th century. Height: 190 cm. This marble pedestal fountain stands out for its classic design and combination of polychrome stones. The top is crowned by a freestanding sculpture of a seated, rampant lion, carved from marble in reddish and orange tones. The lion serves as the fountain’s main spout. The central body consists of a large circular basin with a concave profile, crafted from marbled stone in ochre and yellowish tones (similar to Giallo Reale). The basin rests directly on an Ionic capital with its characteristic lateral volutes. The base is a vertical support consisting of a Solomonic column (with a helical or spiral shaft) made of veined marble in red and white tones (Rosso Verona style), which rests on a molded circular plinth. As a whole, it is a decorative piece in the Renaissance style, where the chromatic contrast of the marbles and the dynamism of the helical column lend it great visual richness. This lot will not be on display in the auction room. Provenance: Mansion in Sintra, Portugal.
