Attributed to Daniel Seghers (Antwerp, 1590–1661) “Virgin and Child with Flowers” Oil on copper. 72.5 x 56 cm. Seghers was a successful painter, prized by such influential collectors as “Federico Enrique of Orange-Nassau, Christina of Sweden, and Charles I of England,” according to the Museo del Prado. Notes in the database of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (RABASF) explain that “he is considered the great master of flower paintings [...] linked to Spanish patrons, such as Cardinal Infante Fernando of Austria, son of Philip III.” He painted flowers inspired by Rubens’ works and is associated with Jan Brueghel, although, according to the Prado, he focuses more “on transparencies and the interplay of light and shadow.” Bibliography: - Museo del Prado (n.d.). “Seghers, Daniel.” https://www.museodelprado.es/aprende/enciclopedia/voz/seghers-daniel/e0602810-14f3-4d8d-9d0f-133d2ac40f69
