128 - EXOTIC SPELL

EXOTIC SPELL Ethno-colonial documentary film by Geneviève and Alfred Chaumel, 1942. 5 photos, silver gelatin prints mounted on cardboard, titles on the images. Approximately 38 x 28 cm per photo and 43 x 32.5 cm per cardboard mount. A few thumbtack holes, mostly on the cardboard mounts. Note: Filmed at the height of the colonial era, *Exotic Enchantment* now serves as a historical document of how French cinema of the time viewed colonized territories and populations. These five large vintage prints thus bear witness both to the history of documentary film and to the ethnographic and colonial representations of the 1940s.
