CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG AND YVAN ATTAL On Screen Yvan Attal’s film *My Wife Is an Actress*, 2001. Photo by Nathalie Eno, vintage color print, labeled (with production and photographer credits) and annotated on the back. 15.4 x 23.7 cm. Note: Charlotte Gainsbourg and Yvan Attal play Charlotte and Yvan, a couple whose first names and circumstances deliberately blur the lines between fiction and reality. He is a sports journalist; she is an actress. When she leaves to film in London with a charming co-star played by Terence Stamp, Yvan struggles to cope with the demands of his profession, particularly the love scenes. For his directorial debut, Attal thus transforms his relationship with Gainsbourg into comedic material, exploring jealousy, trust, and the effects of public scrutiny on intimacy. This deliberate blurring of the lines between private life and public portrayal would become one of the hallmarks of his filmmaking.
