ANEMONE AND ANDRÉ DUSSOLIER During the filming of photographer William Klein’s movie *Le Couple témoin*, 1977. Photograph, vintage RC print, stamped and annotated on the back. 30 x 20 cm. Small tear on one edge. Note: Anémone and André Dussollier play Claudine and Jean-Michel, an “average” French couple selected by the fictional Ministry of the Future to participate in a national experiment. Settled for six months in a model apartment equipped with ultra-modern products, they are constantly observed by psycho-sociologists and exposed to television viewers. Presented as the prototype for a living space designed for the “new man,” the experiment gradually becomes a scheme to control them and strip them of their privacy. Photographer, filmmaker, and co-director of the film’s cinematography, William Klein delivers a burlesque satire of consumer society, television, and institutional surveillance, questioning the line between democracy and totalitarianism.
