CHARLOTTE RAMPLING AND DIRK BOGARDE A passionate scene from Liliana Cavani’s film *Il portiere di notte* (*The Night Porter*), 1974. Photograph, vintage silver print, stamped on the back. 20.7 x 25.3 cm, including white margins. Stamped and annotated on the back. Note: Directed by Liliana Cavani in 1974, *Il portiere di notte* (The Night Porter) brings together Charlotte Rampling and Dirk Bogarde in one of their most memorable roles. In Vienna in 1957, Lucia, a former deportee, recognizes Max, the night porter at her hotel, as a former SS officer with whom she had maintained a relationship based on control and domination during her captivity. Their reunion reignites a destructive bond intertwined with desire, traumatic memory, guilt, and power dynamics. Upon its release, the film sparked intense controversy due to its portrayal of this ambiguous relationship and remains a major and unsettling work of 1970s European cinema.
