Stamp plays a mysterious visitor who infiltrates a wealthy Milanese family and seduces each of its members in turn, revealing their desires and spiritual emptiness. Anne Wiazemsky plays Odetta, the family’s daughter—a shy, overprotected young woman whom the stranger’s sudden departure plunges into a deep crisis. Through this parable, which is almost entirely devoid of dialogue, Pasolini confronts the bourgeoisie with the irruption of desire, the sacred, and the irrational.
