BARBARA LAAGE AND WALTER BRYANT During the filming of C. Brabant and M. Pagliero’s movie “La p… respectueuse,” based on the play by Jean-Paul Sartre, 1952. Photo, vintage silver print, annotated on the back. 18 x 13 cm. Note: Barbara Laage plays Lizzie McKay, a cabaret hostess called to testify after the death of a Black man on a train in the southern United States. Under pressure from the police and a powerful white family, she must choose between the truth and the false testimony they want to force upon her. Opposite Walter Bryant, the actress stars in this adaptation of Jean-Paul Sartre’s play, written against the backdrop of American racial segregation. Directed by Charles Brabant and Marcello Pagliero, the film preserves the political dimension of the original work while expanding its plot for the screen.
