MARILYN MONROE AND LAURENCE OLIVIER In front of the camera during the filming of *The Prince and the Showgirl*, 1957. Photograph, vintage silver print, with traces of a stamp on the back. 23.8 x 18.2 cm. Note: Marilyn Monroe plays Elsie Marina, an American dancer performing in a London revue, while Laurence Olivier plays the Prince Regent of Carpathia. In London for the coronation of George V in 1911, the prince invites the young woman to dinner, hoping for a fleeting affair; however, her intelligence and spontaneity upend the power dynamics. Adapted from Terence Rattigan’s play *The Sleeping Prince*, the film was the first production by Marilyn Monroe Productions, a company founded by the actress. Laurence Olivier, who had previously played the role on stage, served as director, producer, and lead actor.
