Jean-Baptiste GREUZE (1725–1805), after Rêverie Oil on canvas Inscription on the back of the frame: “Grefvinnan Augüsta Löwenhielm / född von Fersen” (Countess Augüsta Löwenhielm, née von Fersen). H_46 x W_38 cm Jean-Baptiste Greuze is one of the most famous painters of the French Enlightenment. He helped revitalize genre painting by depicting anecdotal moments of daily life and conveying a sentimental image of family life. His works, widely disseminated through engravings, were copied and reinterpreted by numerous artists. On the back of the frame, our painting bears a note regarding Christina Augusta von Fersen, Countess Löwenhielm, a member of a prominent Swedish noble family. She was the cousin of Axel von Fersen, Marie Antoinette’s favorite.
