Paper label on the rim inside "BJÖRKSHULT", "SWEDEN", "DESIGN", "H.CHR.WAGNER". Rounded square foot, funnel-shaped flared wall, broad flaring rim, pontil mark underneath. Good condition. 12x19.5x19.5 cm (HxWxD). The Björkshult glassworks in the municipality of Högsby in Småland was founded in 1892 under the name Björklunda and renamed in 1919. It made household and decorative glass, cut glass and toughened glass, and from the 1940s also became known for glass animal figures. The designer Hans-Christian Wagner shaped the art glass of the works as chief designer from 1957 to 1976. In 1974 Krona-Bruken AB took over the works, and with its bankruptcy production in Björkshult ended. Björkshult was one of the glassworks of Småland, whose craft tradition began with the founding of the Kosta works in 1742. The green glass bowl is a design by Wagner for Björkshult and thus an example of Swedish glass and Scandinavian design from Småland.
