The term Pokal goes back to the Italian boccale and denotes a drinking vessel of bowl, stem and foot, often with a lid that was frequently lost over time. Unlike the chalice and ciborium, the goblet served secular purposes and, besides its use for drinking, was above all a prestige gift and display piece. Today it is mostly encountered as a trophy. The hunting motif of the black goblet shows roe deer: the roebuck bears antlers, called Gehörn in hunting language, and the females are called Ricke or Geiß.
