Three milk glass beakers, souvenir of the summer festival of Leipzig's printers and pressmen, 1909 Three identical, slightly conical beakers of white milk glass. Printed in green on the front with a wreath of laurel and oak-leaf branches with bow, within it between ornamental borders the inscription “Drucker und Maschinenmeister Leipzigs Sommerfest 1909”. Condition commensurate with age, all rims with chips and small flakes, print rubbed in places. H. 12 cm each. Around 1900 Leipzig was the centre of German book printing. The city's printers and pressmen were organised along professional lines and held regular summer festivals, for which souvenirs such as these beakers were commissioned; a testimony of local historical interest to the Leipzig book printing trade.
