Probably Süßmuth Space Age ceiling lamp, three-light, glass shade with air inclusions, 1970s Glass and metal, Space Age ceiling lamp, also pendant lamp, probably Süßmuth, manufacturer's label inside the neck. Bell-shaped shade of clear glass with numerous air inclusions and cylindrical neck, containing a silver-coloured insert with retaining screws, suspension on chains and cable with silver-coloured tube, round silver-coloured canopy, three-light, E14 sockets. Good condition commensurate with age, function tested, cable above the lamp added later. Shade D. 36 cm, H. 27 cm, total height 73–90 cm. The Süßmuth glassworks, also spelled Süssmuth, goes back to Richard Süßmuth (1900–1974), the son of a glass cutter at the Penzig-Adler-Hütte in Silesia, who after an apprenticeship there studied at the Dresden Academy of Applied Arts. In 1924 he founded his workshops for glass art in Penzig, whose glass was supplied by the Adlerhütte to his designs. After the Second World War, from 1946 he built up his own glassworks in Immenhausen near Kassel, which produced the glass and its finishing itself and in 1954 received a gold medal at the Milan Triennale for the drinking glass service AE. Today the Glasmuseum Immenhausen in the former generator building of the works commemorates the glassmaking of the town. Space Age is the name given to the design style of the late 1960s and 1970s inspired by space travel, with round, spherical and bell-shaped forms of plastic, glass and metal.
