1036 - Microscope in a Lockable Wooden Case with Eyepieces, Unmarked

Microscope in a Lockable Wooden Case with Eyepieces, Unmarked Metal, black lacquered, wood. Microscope with a forked foot of two forward-pointing limbs, a sturdy pillar with coarse and fine focus and a black tube. On the round stage two specimen clips; below it a condenser with an iris diaphragm and a swing-out filter holder as well as the pivoting illuminating mirror. One objective mounted on the tube, marked „45 x" and „Fluorit". Unmarked. With five eyepieces. The matching wooden case with a hinged door and a lock, key present, on the top a fitted metal handle, inside holders for the accessories. Condition commensurate with age, traces of use on the microscope and on the case. Microscope h. approx. 34 cm Black lacquered castings replaced polished brass around 1900 because the matt surface avoids reflections and needs less care. The condenser with an iris diaphragm belongs to the better equipment: with it the specimen can be illuminated in a controlled way. Fluorite as a lens material reduces colour fringing and marks the superior class of objective. The lockable case with a carrying handle protected the instrument in the laboratory and in transport, the eyepieces being kept in their own compartments. Instruments without a maker's mark frequently come from suppliers who produced for trading houses and school equipment firms.
