Dietrich Genau, Houses at the Corner of Friedhofstrasse in Hoym, Half-Timbered View, 2009 (1936 Osnabrueck to 2026), oil on canvas, signed lower right, inscribed Hoym and dated (20)09, inscribed Ecke Friedhof Str. lower left, titled, inscribed and dated 2009 on the reverse. Corner houses on Friedhofstrasse in Hoym: on the right a low building rendered in ochre with a red tiled roof, a wooden box dormer and olive-green shutters, adjoining on the left a half-timbered gable and further rendered houses along the cobbled street, at the right edge a tree, above a blue sky with white clouds. The painting records the appearance of the town around 1900. Good condition, small paint losses in places. Image 30x40 cm (HxW). Framed, frame slightly rubbed, frame width 4.5 cm The houses shown on Friedhofstrasse were demolished during the construction of the new B 6 road, so the painting preserves a street that has disappeared from Hoym. On Friedhofstrasse the cemetery with its funeral hall, the war memorial and the hereditary burial place of the Wendenburg family are under monument protection. Dietrich Genau compiled the history of Hoym as its local chronicler and recorded it in several hundred pictures; in 2020 he was awarded the cultural prize of the Salzlandkreis, and in 2024 the parliament of Saxony-Anhalt showed an exhibition of his works.
