Rocavagio, Standing Female Nude with Light Blue Cloth, Three-quarter Figure, Nude Painting, 2005 Oil on canvas, signed and dated 2005 lower left, signature and date overpainted, standing female nude as a three-quarter figure to the thighs, dark brown shoulder-length curly hair, head and gaze turned to the right, holding a light blue cloth at the level of the belly with both hands, ground in light grey colour fields with an indicated parapet, good condition, edges of the bare canvas soiled, image 80x40 cm (HxW) Drawing and painting the nude from the living model has been the central discipline of academic training since the Carracci, and the academies of the 19th century demanded the exact rendering of the model. The female nude remained a principal subject of painting in the 20th century, from Expressionism through Cubism to Pop Art, and this contemporary female nude of 2005 continues that nude painting as a three-quarter figure on a light ground.
