Monogrammist W, Standing Female Nude at the Wall with White Hair Band, Erotic Painting, 2005 Oil on canvas, monogrammed W lower left, dated 2005 on the reverse, female nude in three-quarter view, head lowered in profile to the left, long dark brown wavy hair with white hair band, supporting herself against the wall with the right arm, the left arm in front of the body, white garters on both thighs, ground in yellow, beige and brown tones with broad brushstrokes, good condition, image 80x60 cm (HxW) Study of the nude from the living model has been the central discipline of academic training since the Carracci. Props such as the hair band and garters link this female nude to the pin-up painting of the 20th century, whose pictures of women in lingerie were created by painters such as Gil Elvgren, Alberto Vargas and George Petty; this studio nude of 2005 thus stands between nude painting and erotic painting.
