Martin Wirth, Two views of Mallorca, Capdepera Castle and pilgrim chapel among cypresses, 1995 (1939 – 2017 Ilsenburg), two watercolours, watercolour on paper, each signed and dated "WIRTH 95" lower right, each inscribed verso, 1) "An der Burg v. Capdepera", path along the crenellated castle wall with tower, trees and opuntias in front, on the left a street lamp, cypresses and a figure in light-coloured clothing, mountains in the background, good condition commensurate with age, slightly stained in places, minimal edge damage, image 24x32 cm (HxW); 2) "Pilger-Kapelle auf Mallorca", chapel with round-arched portal and small bell turret with cross between tall cypresses, on the left an outbuilding with tiled roof, mounted on a backing board, good condition commensurate with age, slightly stained in places, image 24x32 cm (HxW), overall dimensions 33x40 cm (HxW) The Castell de Capdepera crowns the 159 m high Puig de Capdepera, some 1.9 km from the east coast of Mallorca. King James II of Majorca had the fortified settlement laid out circa 1300; its triangular circuit of walls with the towers Torre d'en Banya, Torre de ses Dames, Torre de sa Boira and Torre des Costerans encloses the older tower Torre d'en Miquel Nunis from the Islamic period. In the 16th century some 150 houses crowded behind the battlements, as the rural population sought protection from Ottoman corsairs. Within the walls stands the church of Nostra Senyora de l'Esperança, built in three phases from the 14th to the 18th century; since 1983 the castle has belonged to the municipality and is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural.
