Wilfried Thierbach, historic superintendent's house in Stolberg in the Harz, half-timbered house Watercolour/paper, signed lower right "Thierbach.", titled on the passe-partout, inscribed on the backboard "Stolberg/Harz" and "Thierbach.", the old superintendent's house in Stolberg in the Harz, half-timbered upper storey with yellowish infill panels and white sash windows above a masonry ground floor, brown roof with dormers and chimney, in front a board fence and a lawn, on the right an outside staircase with yellow steps, behind it a yellow house with blue-grey roof among deciduous trees, good condition, image 18x26 cm (HxW), passe-partout, glazed, framed, silver-coloured frame with relief decor, overall 34.5x44.5 cm (HxW) Wilfried Thierbach is a grandson of the Stolberg oil painter Richard Thierbach (1860 to 1931). The town of Stolberg in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz was the seat of the Counts of Stolberg from the beginning of its history and is the birthplace of the peasants' leader Thomas Müntzer. Almost 400 half-timbered houses from more than 600 years crowd into four narrow valleys here; Stolberg was the first town in Germany to receive the distinction "Historic European Town" and is the starting point of the German Timber-Frame Road. A Superintendentur is the official residence of a superintendent; the first Protestant pastor and superintendent of Stolberg was Tilemann Plathner (1490 to 1551), and the town later became an important seat of the consistory of the Lutheran church. Until the late Middle Ages mining and coinage shaped the town, above which the castle of the Counts of Stolberg stands high.
