Prof. Helmut Sundhaussen, Geometric Composition on a Blue Ground, Concrete Art, 1977 (1935 Duesseldorf - 2018 ibid.), oil on canvas, signed and dated (19)77 on the reverse of the support. Square composition: against a luminous blue ground three diagonally directed planes in medium grey, dark grey and a light grey-white interpenetrate, their edges running from the upper right to the lower left corner and turning the pictorial space into a fold. The paint applied smoothly and opaquely, without visible brushwork. Good condition. Image 61 x 61 cm (HxW), framed, frame minimally bumped, frame width 2 cm. Helmut Sundhaussen studied painting at the Duesseldorf Art Academy from 1957 to 1962 under Bruno Goller, whose master student he became. In 1962 he received the sponsorship award of the Kulturkreis of the Federation of German Industries, in 1966 the Villa Romana Prize and in 1970 a scholarship at the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris; from 1971 he taught at the Folkwang University in Essen, from 1973 as a professor. He is regarded as a representative of Concrete Art; works are held by the Museum Folkwang Essen, the Kunstmuseen Krefeld, the Museum Kunstpalast Duesseldorf and the Kunsthaus NRW Kornelimuenster, among others. The strictly geometric overlapping planes of the 1970s form the core of his painted oeuvre.
