Hans Böhm, timber cart with horse team on forest path, mountain landscape with spruces, Harz painter (1926 Clausthal-Zellerfeld – 1998 Clausthal-Zellerfeld), oil/canvas, signed lower right "Hans Böhm", 20th century, mountain landscape with forest path, in the centre a cart with two heavy draught horses, on the left a dark brown one with a light mane, on the right a light beige one, harnessed to a long timber wagon loaded with tree trunks, beside it a man in a blue jacket with a green hat, on the left a slope with spruces and boulders, on the right tall spruces, in the background wooded mountain ridges, good condition commensurate with age, image 60.5x80.5 cm (HxW), framed, frame width 7 cm Hans Böhm came from Clausthal-Zellerfeld, where he was born in 1926 and died in 1998. Clausthal, the largest district of today's mining and university town, grew up from 1548 and was raised to the status of a free mining town in 1554; it was the seat of the chief mining office for Upper Harz mining. The timber cart shows forestry work before motorisation: horses, mostly heavy draught horses, brought the felled trunks to the nearest forest path or stacking yard until tractors and forestry machines largely replaced them from the 1960s onwards.
