Herbert Kuron, Sailing Boats at Dusk, impressionist river landscape in the evening light Silesian landscape painter, draughtsman and etcher (1888 Breslau - 1951 Berlin), studied at the Breslau Art Academy under Carl Ernst Morgenstern, further trained under Georg Müller-Breslau in Dresden and at the Academy in Berlin under Friedrich Kallmorgen, oil on hardboard, signed lower right, two sailing boats glide at dusk over a calm watercourse which winds in a sweeping course through the dark, wide shore landscape. The brightly glowing evening sky is reflected in the still water surface, against which the dark sails stand out as striking silhouettes. On the left bank lies a boat beside wooden posts which structure the foreground. The restrained, tonal colouring lends the scene a calm evening mood, condition appropriate to age, soiled, partial paint losses, edges rubbed, image 47x68.5 cm (HxW), framed, frame knocked, frame width 7.5 cm Herbert Kuron made a name for himself above all with quiet, contemplative landscape depictions of his Silesian homeland, in particular with motifs from the Giant Mountains. He worked at times in the artists' colonies of Worpswede and Nidden on the Curonian Spit; regular painting stays also took him to Thuringia, Mecklenburg, the Alps and the Baltic coast. His impressionistically conceived landscapes are distinguished by a finely tuned, bright colouring.
