After Max Liebermann, Man with Pannier in the Dunes, impressionist dune landscape with basket bearer Oil on cardboard, unsigned, copy after Max Liebermann (1847 Berlin - 1935 Berlin), in the dunes sits an elderly man in dark clothing with a black cap, on his back he carries a woven pannier. His hands are propped before him on a stick, his gaze lowered. Around him extends the hilly landscape overgrown with dune grass, through which a sandy path runs. The sketchy, loose manner of painting in graduated green and yellow tones under a bright sky follows the impressionist model, condition appropriate to age, support undulating, craquelure, retouchings, partial scratches, image 38x50 cm (HxW), framed, frame knocked, frame width 7.5 cm The motif of the resting pannier carrier in the dunes goes back to Max Liebermann, who treated it several times in the 1890s during his stays on the Dutch North Sea coast, among others in the drawing 'Man with Pannier in the Dunes' (1894-1897). Through reproductions and artists' postcards the motif found wide distribution and was frequently copied. Liebermann is regarded as one of the most important representatives of German Impressionism and was president of the Berlin Secession.
