Solitaire ring, 750 white gold, flawless brilliant-cut diamond 0.3 ct, four-claw setting 750 white gold and diamond. Solitaire ring, the shank stamped “750” and “0,30ct” inside, an indistinctly struck mark on the outside of the shank, not identified; ring head with a flawless brilliant-cut diamond of 0.3 ct in a box-shaped setting with four claws, the setting open at the sides and back; flat shank widening towards the ring head. Very good condition. Inner diameter 19.2 mm. 360-degree photo available on our website. The name of the diamond goes back to the Greek word adamas, meaning “invincible”: no other gemstone is harder, and for a long time the diamond was considered indestructible. From this permanence grew its meaning as a symbol of love and fidelity; the advertising slogan “A diamond is forever”, written by the copywriter Frances Gerety for De Beers in 1947, linked the diamond for good with the promise of eternal love. A solitaire, from the French solitaire, is a singly set brilliant-cut diamond. The brilliant cut with its 57 facets, calculated by Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919, is designed for the reflection of light; a diamond is called flawless if it shows no inclusions even under a tenfold magnifying loupe.
