Straco musical box "Weihnachtsträume" with Father Christmas and wood-shaving trees, wood, Erzgebirge Wood, polychrome painted, musical box "Weihnachtsträume" by Straco GmbH, Colmnitz/Erzgebirge. On the underside round label "STRACO GmbH" and "COLMNITZ/ERZGEBIRGE", wing key stamped "Romance". White-painted, waisted base with gold-coloured stars on three ball feet, at the side a wooden rod with ball end, on the base a gold-coloured disc with Christmas scene: Father Christmas in red coat with stocking cap, girl with yellow doll's pram, two wood-shaving trees, train of locomotive and three carriages, green vehicle with brown trailer and three parcels as well as a sack of gifts with two parcels. Function tested, good condition. D. 12 cm, H. 12.5 cm. Under the name Straco, the Erzgebirge wood art business of the Straßburger family is based in Colmnitz: Regina and Hartmut Straßburger started in a garage in 1983, and in 1992 they founded Straco Erzgebirgische Holzkunst GmbH. In 1996 Stracoland followed in Colmnitz, today part of the municipality of Klingenberg, with factory outlet, show workshop and adventure world; in 1998 production was moved to Hallbach. Besides pyramids, candle arches and incense smokers, the company also made musical boxes. Wood-shaving trees are a speciality of the wood art from the region around Seiffen: from a conical turned blank, the craftsman lifts shaving after shaving with a chisel until the curled branches form.
