Set of six Defa lobby cards "Wozzeck" after Büchner's "Woyzeck", Georg C. Klaren, 1947 Black and white photographic prints, set of six original lobby cards for the film "Wozzeck" ("Woyzeck"), Defa, 1947, landscape formats with white margins, scene stills, each with the company logo "DEFA" lower left, on four prints the film title "WOZZECK" lower centre, mostly stamped "№" on the reverse and with handwritten numbers. Good condition commensurate with age. Each approx. 24x18 cm (LxW). "Wozzeck" was made by Defa in 1947 under the direction of Georg C. Klaren, who wrote the screenplay after Georg Büchner's dramatic fragment "Woyzeck"; Bruno Mondi was behind the camera and Herbert Trantow wrote the music. Kurt Meisel played the soldier Wozzeck, Helga Zülch Marie, Paul Henckels the doctor and Arno Paulsen the captain, while Max Eckard portrayed the poet Georg Büchner himself in a framing story. Filming took place in Babelsberg and at the Althoff Studios in Potsdam, and the premiere followed on 17 December 1947. The spelling of the title goes back to a misreading of Büchner's manuscript, which long served as the name of the play. The Deutsche Film Aktiengesellschaft, Defa for short, had received its licence for film production from the Soviet Military Administration in Potsdam-Babelsberg on 17 May 1946.
