The Reichsbund was founded in Berlin on 23 May 1917 as an association of veterans and war victims of the First World War in order to enforce their pension claims and those of their surviving dependants; after its self-dissolution in 1933 and re-foundation in 1946, it bore the association name given on the sign from 1949 to 1974 and has continued since 1999 as the Sozialverband Deutschland (SoVD). Deutscher Bauerndienst was the name of the Raiffeisen insurance companies from 1934 to 1948, which were incorporated into the Reichsnährstand in 1934; thereafter they were called Raiffeisendienst Versicherungsgesellschaften, from which today's R+V Versicherung emerged.
