594 - Hunting walking stick, antler handle with carved dog's head in the round, metal collar with relief

Hunting walking stick, antler handle with carved dog's head in the round, metal collar with relief Antler and wood, walking stick, also cane, handle made from a curved antler beam, from the burr a hunting dog carved in the round with long drooping ears. Silver-coloured metal collar with scrolling foliate relief and shield, monogrammed "PW". Wooden shaft with metal tip. Used condition commensurate with age. L. 92.5 cm Walking sticks with handles of stag antler belong to the hunting sticks, which are also carried as hunter's sticks or hiking sticks. An antler consists of two bony beams whose surface is covered with small protuberances, the so-called pearls; this pearling gives the handle its grippy texture. Figural carvings on the antler handle, such as animal heads, raise such a walking stick above the simple hiking stick.
