Lot of seven wooden textile printing blocks with delicate border and all-over patterns Wood, lot of seven wooden printing blocks, also wooden stamps or printing blocks, for textile printing, for borders and larger-scale decors, each with relief-carved printing surface with delicate patterns: 1) square block with small-scale zigzag and step pattern and circles, 2) block with pointed oval, lobed cartouches with cell pattern, 3) block with pinwheel motif of heart shapes before a fan ground, 4) narrow border block with twig and groups of dots between side pattern strips, 5) block with dense serpentine linework, 6) block with large oval field in wavy lines, 7) border block with rows of flower heads above leaf scrolls on a striped ground. Good condition commensurate with age, edges chipped in places. Max. 16x16 cm (LxW). Textile printing (Zeugdruck) denotes printing cotton and linen fabrics with coloured patterns, in hand printing with wooden printing blocks. On the block the pattern stands raised in relief above the ground; the printer places the inked block on the fabric and transfers the colour with a blow of the wooden mallet on the back of the block. In textile printing very fine lines were sometimes not carved but formed from inserted wire pins and metal strips. Only the roller printing machine with copper rollers displaced printing with relief-cut wooden blocks from textile manufacture.
