Lot of eight wooden textile printing blocks, stamps with scrolls and ornamental borders Wood, lot of eight wooden printing blocks, also wooden stamps or printing blocks, for textile printing, with relief-carved scrolls and ornamental borders: 1) red-brown block with serrated discs on a wave scroll, 2) block with two round discs on a small-scale ground, 3) block with S-shaped wave scrolls, 4) block with sun rosette in serrated frame, incomplete, 5) border block with arcade frieze between sawtooth strips, 6) narrow border block with drop shapes in two cartouches with stepped borders, 7) border block with pointed oval leaf shapes between cone strips, 8) wedge-shaped piece with scrollwork and volute. Good condition commensurate with age, edges chipped in places. Max. 15.5x14.5 cm (LxW). In block printing the block is set impression by impression in repeat next to the previous ones so that the pattern continues across the length of fabric without offset. For this purpose two small pins on the block pricked marks into the fabric, at which the next impression could be placed precisely. The hand-held wooden block was followed in textile printing by wooden rollers, so-called plombines, and flat printing forms on the perrotine.
