Herend Globular Vase Mediterranean Garden with Floral Garlands and Bird, Form 7088 Porcelain, polychrome painted, glazed. Compressed globular vase by the Herend manufactory with a narrow, upright mouth, the rim gilt. From the mouth pink ribbons with bows fall across the shoulder and pass into encircling garlands of roses, forget-me-nots, tulips and bellflowers; in the lower field a bird with a green-feathered tail and orange breast perches on a flowering tendril. The foot ring with a gold line. The base with the blue manufactory mark Herend Hungary with the Hungarian coat of arms and the addition Handpainted, below it the form and pattern designation 7088 JM as well as the painter's blue signature. Good condition. H. 10 cm The Herend porcelain manufactory was founded in 1826 in Herend in western Hungary and gained international standing at the London Great Exhibition of 1851, when Queen Victoria ordered a service. Herend still paints every piece by hand; the manufactory does not run anonymous series production but has its painters sign their work on the base. The combination of ribbon bows, floral garlands and single birds goes back to Viennese and Meissen models of the 18th century, which Herend reinterpreted for the Hungarian nobility in the 19th century.
