Meissen tea and coffee service for six, Bunte Blume pattern, first quality, 2nd half 20th century Porcelain, painted in colours and gilt, glazed. Tea and coffee service by the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen for six persons, 22 pieces: six three-piece settings of cup, saucer and cake plate, with milk jug, sugar bowl with cover, teapot and coffee pot. Scalloped forms, the covers of the pots and sugar bowl with an applied flower bud as finial, the coffee pot with relief moulding at the handle and spout. All pieces with colourful flower bouquets and scattered flowers in naturalistic painting, the rims gilt. On the bases the underglaze blue crossed swords mark without cancellation strokes, with impressed and painter's numbers. First quality. Good age-related condition, the gilding rubbed. Cup H. 5 cm, teapot H. 14 cm, coffee pot H. 27 cm. Meissen has used the crossed Electoral swords since 1731; their form allows a dating. Swords with pommels on the hilts were used until 1924, from 1924 to 1934 they carried a dot between the blades, since 1934 they appear without addition. Cancellation strokes are ground into the glazed mark to denote second and third quality; a mark without strokes stands for first quality. The colourful naturalistic flower painting is known in the trade as Bunte Blume and is one of the longest-lived Meissen decors.
