Meissen Vase, Chamberstick and Small Dish with Bunte Blume 2, First Choice, Crossed Swords Mark Porcelain, polychrome painted, gilt, glazed. Three pieces by the Meissen State Porcelain Manufactory in the Bunte Blume 2 pattern. 1) Bulbous vase with a drawn-in neck and slightly flaring mouth, to the front a large pink wild rose with forget-me-nots, the rim and foot ring gilt. H. 13 cm. 2) Chamberstick with a rounded foot, bell-shaped stem and wide drip pan, to the side a ring handle and a flat, fan-shaped thumb piece with gold lines and gold dots, on the foot and pan floral bouquets with a cornflower and scattered flowers, the rims with gold lines. H. 7 cm. 3) Oval dish with a shaped, scalloped rim, in the well a bouquet with a blue anemone and pink blossoms, on the border four scattered flowers, gold rim. 2x12.5x9 cm (HxWxD). The undersides with the underglaze blue crossed swords mark without pommel, together with the model number and the red painter's number. Good condition. The chamberstick was used to carry a single candle safely through the house: the wide pan catches the running wax, the ring takes the thumb, and the flat extension at the side is the grip. Before the introduction of electric light it was a matter of course in every bedroom. Meissen kept the form in production for decades in various sizes and decorated it with the same flower patterns as the tableware, so that candlestick, vase and dish could be assembled into a set.
