Meissen Two Coffee Settings, Colourful Floral Painting and Aquatinta Decoration Porcelain, two grinding strokes (second choice), glazed. Two coffee settings by the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen in two different patterns: the first in the “Blume 2” pattern with colourful, naturalistic floral painting and gold rim, the second in the “Aquatinta” pattern with finely painted blue blossom and leaf decoration. Each setting consists of a cup (h. 6.5 cm), saucer and cake plate. The undersides bear the underglaze blue crossed swords mark, each with two grinding strokes. Good condition commensurate with age. Founded in 1710, the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen is the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe and still bears the crossed swords as its world-famous mark. The two settings unite two different decorative traditions of the house – the colourful German floral painting and the blue Aquatinta painting. The grinding strokes on the crossed swords mark identify a piece sorted out by the manufactory as second choice, which does not, however, diminish the appeal of the hand-painted settings. A charming pair for collectors of Meissen porcelain.
