Meissen, five cake plates Neuer Ausschnitt, colourful flower painting, scattered flowers, gold rim Porcelain, two cancellation strokes, polychrome painted, gold rim, glazed, five cake or dessert plates of the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen, shape Neuer Ausschnitt with lobed curved rim, hand-painted decoration "Blume 2, schräg, bunt, Goldrand", in the well each with an obliquely placed flower bouquet, on the border small scattered flowers, on the undersides the underglaze blue crossed swords mark, good condition commensurate with age, one plate with firing flaw, D. 20 cm The shape Neuer Ausschnitt with its gently curved rim reminiscent of petals was created circa 1745 under Johann Joachim Kaendler, who was artistic director of the Meissen manufactory for over 40 years. Naturalistically painted European flowers, as bouquets or scattered individually, became popular on Meissen porcelain from about 1740; initially copied from engravings in natural history works, from about 1750 they were painted from nature. As each motif is painted by hand, no plate is exactly like another. At Meissen, two cancellation strokes through the crossed swords mark denote second quality.
