Sandizell shepherd couple, two polychrome porcelain figures on rocaille bases, Dresden style, 1960s Porcelain, polychrome painted and gilt, glazed. Shepherd couple by the porcelain factory Sandizell, Hoeffner & Co., two figures in rococo costume on rocaille bases with green ground, tree stump and applied flowers. The shepherdess with yellow straw hat, petrol-coloured jacket with white lace over a yellow, red-laced bodice and a pink, dark-striped skirt carries a lamb in her light green apron, a sheep at her feet. The shepherd with black tricorn, petrol-coloured coat, pink waistcoat and ochre breeches holds the crook and a lamb, a bandolier with bag over his shoulder, a sheep at his feet. On the bases the underglaze blue mark with crown above N and the Dresden inscription, one figure additionally marked handgemalt. Age-related condition, the crook and the tail of the lamb glued, the shepherdess with tension cracks between base and dress, small chip in the paint on the woman's apron, glaze partially cracked. H. 25 cm each. 360-degree photo on our website. The porcelain factory Sandizell, Hoeffner & Co. was founded in 1951 at Sandizell near Schrobenhausen in Upper Bavaria. Many of its staff were porcelain specialists who had come from Thuringia and Saxony after 1949, bringing the Dresden decorating tradition with them; the firm accordingly produced decorative figures and giftware in the Dresden style. The mark with the crown above the N and the Dresden inscription was used in the 1960s; production ended in 2008. Shepherd couples are classic subjects of figural porcelain, continuing the courtly pastoral idyll of the 18th century.
