KPM Berlin, Two Vases and Two Candle Holders, White Porcelain with Sceptre Mark White porcelain, glazed. Two vases and two candle holders by the Koenigliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (KPM) Berlin in plain, entirely undecorated form, emphasising the flawless whiteness of the porcelain body and the clear design. The two vases show a baluster-shaped and a finely drawn, drop-shaped body respectively, the two candle holders a hollowed nozzle over a round foot. The undersides with the manufactory's underglaze-blue sceptre mark. Good condition, vases H. 13.5 and 15 cm, candle holders H. 7 and 9 cm. The Koenigliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin was taken over in 1763 by Frederick the Great, who granted it the cobalt-blue sceptre as the mark it still bears today. It is precisely the white, undecorated porcelain that is regarded as the high school of the manufactory, as it reveals perfection of form and the quality of the body without any painterly distraction. Vases and candle holders of this kind fit discreetly and clearly into classical as well as modern interiors. An ensemble for friends of fine Berlin porcelain.
