Hedwig Bollhagen Tea Service for Two, Stripe Decoration, HB Workshops Marwitz Ceramic, hand-painted stripe decoration, glazed. Tea service for two persons from the HB Workshops for Ceramics of the important ceramicist Hedwig Bollhagen in Marwitz, comprising a teapot (H. 16 cm), sugar bowl, milk jug and two cups with two saucers; in addition a ring-shaped wreath (H. 3.5 cm, outer D. 24 cm). The service is decorated with an encircling, freely hand-painted stripe decoration in blue and yellow, the wreath striped in blue and white, entirely in that clear, utility-oriented formal language for which Bollhagen is famous. The undersides bear the hand-painted painter's mark 'HB'. Good condition. Hedwig Bollhagen (1907-2001) founded the HB Workshops for Ceramics in Marwitz in 1934 and is among the most important German ceramicists of the 20th c. Her work stands in the tradition of the Deutscher Werkbund and the Bauhaus and combines plain forms oriented towards daily use with characteristic hand-painted stripe, dot and floral decorations. Pieces from the HB Workshops remain sought-after collector's items to this day and are at the same time valued for everyday use. A service for lovers of modern German utility ceramics.
