KPM Berlin Cabinet Plate Reliefzierat Form with Polychrome Flower Painting and Gilding Porcelain, polychrome painted and gilt, glazed. Cabinet plate by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin, Reliefzierat form, with a shaped and scalloped edge and a moulded rim. The relief of lattice work, leafy scrolls and rocailles entirely picked out in gold, the edge with a broad gold band; golden sheaves of corn reach into the well. On the rim three polychrome flower bouquets with poppy, asters, forget-me-nots and pansies, together with single scattered flowers in the well. On the base the underglaze blue sceptre mark and the red orb above KPM. Good condition commensurate with age, small tension crack in the well. D. 26.5 cm. The form was created in 1765 for the Neues Palais in Potsdam and belongs to the service forms that Frederick the Great ordered from the Berlin manufactory for his palaces; alongside it stand Neuzierat, Rocaille and Neuosier. The KPM has used the sceptre as its factory mark since 1763 and the orb as a decorators' mark since 1832, red standing for floral and polychrome painting; the lettering beneath it was used from 1870 to 1992.
