Meissen display plate with vine leaf and oak leaf relief, gold bronzed, swords mark after 1934 Porcelain, two cancellation cuts, white glazed, relief-moulded, gold bronzed and gold-accented. Display plate, also known as display bowl, Meissen. Round, dished form with raised, lobed and curved wall on foot ring. On the wall a leaf relief of large vine leaves and oak leaves, matt gold bronzed, leaf veins, tendrils and rim line in shiny gold, between them white relief leaves with gold-dashed edges. In the well a wreath of small vine leaves with tendrils in the same finish. On the underside the underglaze blue swords mark without addition (after 1934), together with impressed model number, press number "79" and a black stamped number. Good condition. D. 29 cm. The Meissen porcelain manufactory was founded in 1710 by decree of Augustus the Strong, initially worked in the Albrechtsburg and moved from 1863 into the new buildings in the Triebisch valley. The crossed blue swords, modelled on the Saxon electoral swords, have been applied under the glaze since 1722; since 1934 the manufactory has marked them without any addition, after a dot had stood between the blades from 1924 to 1934. Cancellation cuts through the mark denote second quality. Display bowls and display plates with moulded vine leaf relief have been part of the Meissen range since the middle of the 19th century and were produced into the 20th century. The vine leaf models of this period include designs by Ernst August Leuteritz (1818 to 1893), who headed the design department of the manufactory from 1849 to 1886 and is regarded as the most productive Meissen modeller of the 19th century.
