Thomas porcelain vase with fine silver overlay by Deusch, black ground, flower decor, c. 1960 Porcelain, black glazed, with galvanic fine silver overlay. Vase by the Thomas porcelain factory, flat ovoid body tapering towards the top with obliquely rising oval mouth, the rim mounted in silver. On the front two large stylised flowers in yellow and orange with dark stamens, the flower edges, stems and jagged leaves executed in applied silver. On the base the black mark Thomas Germany with three dots, beside it in red the jug signet of the Deusch silver workshops with the designation 1000/1000 Feinsilber. Good age-related condition, small paint flaw, silver plating partially tarnished. H. 20 cm. The Thomas porcelain factory was founded in 1903 by Fritz Thomas in Marktredwitz; since 1908 it has belonged to the Rosenthal group as an independent subsidiary. In 1959/60 Rosenthal moved production from Marktredwitz to Speichersdorf. The fine silver overlay is by Deusch & Co. of Schwaebisch Gmuend: Friedrich Deusch developed the process of depositing fine silver galvanically on the non-conductive porcelain body and received a gold medal for it at the Ghent world exhibition of 1913. The designation 1000/1000 gives the fineness of the applied silver. Silver-overlaid porcelain was an elaborate luxury ware sold through silver and jewellery shops.
