KPM Berlin wall plate with polychrome bird and insect painting and gold rim Porcelain, polychrome painted and gilt, glazed. Wall plate by the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin with a smooth rising rim and narrow gold edge. In the well two birds on a branch with red berries and green foliage: on the left a yellow bird with white face, white throat and white tail, on the right a bird with black cap, white cheek, pink breast, wings set off in violet and blue and a blue-grey tail. Four scattered insects, butterflies and beetles around the painting. On the base the underglaze blue sceptre mark, beside it the red orb with the red KPM inscription. Wall hanger on the reverse. Good condition. D. 25 cm. The Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin has used the sceptre from the arms of the Mark Brandenburg as its factory mark since 1763. From 1832 the orb was added as a painting mark; in red it denotes polychrome overglaze painting with flowers, figures and landscapes. The KPM inscription under the orb was used from 1870 to 1992 and narrows the dating to this period. Naturalistically painted birds on berry branches with scattered insects go back to the ornithological porcelain decors of the 18th century.
