Meissen Two Plates and Reticulated Bowl, Vine Leaf Pattern, First Choice, Knaufzeit circa 1900 Porcelain, vine leaf decoration in underglaze green, with gold rim, glazed, first choice. Two plates and a reticulated bowl by the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen in the classic “Weinlaub” (vine leaf) pattern, officially “Full Green Vine Wreath”. On both plates an encircling, densely composed wreath of chrome green vine leaves and tendrils adorns the rim while the well remains free, framed by a gold rim; only the reticulated bowl bears the vine leaf decoration in the well as well and is additionally fitted with a richly pierced basket rim. The undersides bear the underglaze blue pommel crossed swords mark. Good condition, the gold rims minimally rubbed, dessert plate d. 21 cm, dinner plate d. 25 cm, reticulated bowl h. 5 cm and d. 29 cm. The “Weinlaub” pattern, officially “Full Green Vine Wreath”, was designed for Meissen in 1817 by Johann Samuel Arnhold and has since been one of the manufactory’s classic table patterns. Green as a symbol of life, the vine as a sign of intellectual strength and the wreath as an expression of permanence combine into a pattern that is still produced almost unchanged today. The pommel crossed swords mark dates the pieces to the so-called Knaufzeit (about 1850 to 1924). Founded in 1710, the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen is the oldest porcelain manufactory in Europe. A decorative ensemble for collectors of Meissen porcelain.
