Sitzendorf porcelain figure with banner 'In Lauterbach hab ich mein Strumpf verloren' White porcelain, glazed. Fully sculptural figure by the Sitzendorf porcelain manufactory, on an oval base with a relief banner 'In Lauterbach hab ich mein Strumpf verlor'n' after the well-known folk song. The figure of a seated child is finely modelled and left in white. On the base the blue Sitzendorf mark (crown over an entwined S). Age-appropriate good condition, small stress crack in the pocket. H. 14 cm, w. 10 cm, d. 5 cm. The Sitzendorf porcelain manufactory was re-established in 1850 in Sitzendorf, Thuringia, and, alongside Volkstedt and Wallendorf, is among the early centres of the Thuringian porcelain industry. The relief banner quotes the folk song 'Zu Lauterbach hab i mein Strumpf verlor'n', widespread in the 19th century, which makes the figure a humorous, decorative collector's item. An appealing object for lovers of Thuringian porcelain art.
