Julius Greiner majolica jardinière of the Historicist period, colourfully glazed with gold Majolica, colourfully glazed, gilt. Jardinière or footed bowl of the Historicist period, by Julius Greiner & Sohn. Above a structured foot rises a shell-shaped, curved bowl whose wall is glazed in cream-white, turquoise and cobalt blue and decorated with applied, sculptural gilded rocaille and floral relief in neo-Rococo style. Age-appropriate condition, one handle with a chip, small glaze flaw at the rim. H. 16.5 cm, w. 25 cm, d. 9 cm. Colourfully glazed, richly gilded majolica jardinières in neo-Rococo style belong to the typical decorative repertoire of the Historicism of the second half of the 19th century, which revived the playful forms of the Rococo. Such footed bowls served as representative table or mantelpiece decoration. A decorative piece for lovers of Historicist ceramics.
