Pillivuyt & Cie Paris lidded tureen with gilt monogram beneath a crown, gilt decoration, after 1878 Porcelain, gilt-decorated, glazed. Lidded tureen by the manufactory Ch. Pillivuyt & Cie, Paris. Round body on a foot ring with two angular handles, domed lid with grooved finial, gilt rims and a dark grey line, gilt lines on the handles and finial. On the body and on the lid each a gilt intertwined monogram beneath a crown. On the underside the red overglaze mark "MEDAILLES D'OR 1867-1878", "CHS PILLIVUYT & CIE", "PARIS". Good condition commensurate with age, minor firing flaws, gilding rubbed. 15x20x20 cm (HxWxD) The Pillivuyt porcelain manufactory was founded in 1818 by Jean Louis Richard Pillivuyt in Foëcy in the Cher département; in 1847 the firm opened its Paris shop in the Rue de Paradis. Under Charles Pillivuyt production was moved to Mehun-sur-Yèvre in 1853. Pillivuyt received several gold medals at the exhibitions in Paris and London, among them in 1867 and 1878, to which the mark on this tureen refers.
