J. … de Sacramento Poenitentiae Resolutorum", probably Laurentius Tapolcsányi, probably Tyrnau, 1st quarter of the 18th century, leather binding. Condition commensurate with age, browned, stained, pages partly with losses, bindings heavily rubbed, not collated. Terence (Publius Terentius Afer, born between 195 and 184 BC in Carthage, died 159 or 158 BC) left six comedies, which served until the 17th century as the most important reading for learning Latin at grammar schools. Claudian (circa 370 Alexandria to 404) was court poet under Emperor Honorius and his minister Stilicho and is regarded as the last important poet of the classical Latin tradition. In his travel novel, first published in 1788, the French scholar Jean-Jacques Barthélemy (1716 to 1795) had a young Scythian travel through the Greece of the 4th century BC; the work became a bestseller of the Enlightenment and went through some 80 editions. The Swiss historian Johannes von Müller (1752 Schaffhausen to 1809 Kassel) wrote his world history in 24 books, which only appeared after his death, from 1810, in the edition of his works prepared by his brother and published by Cotta. Carlo Botta (1766 to 1837) wrote his four-volume history of Italy from 1789 to 1814 as a contemporary witness of the Napoleonic era; it was first published in 1824. The collection of cases on the sacrament of penance probably goes back to the lectures of the Jesuit Laurentius Tapolcsányi (1669 to 1729) at the University of Tyrnau, where it was printed in 1716 and 1724. The Viennese journal "Geist der Zeit" appeared in quarterly volumes.
